The message included a link to a 16-second video in which he says: "We did it 19 years. Many thanks. So I say first: I'm going to retire. I love you. Talk to you soon. "
The spokesman for the Boston Celtics, Jeff Twiss, said O'Neal has not warned the team about their plans.
