Reliever Joba Chamberlain (New York Yankees) will undergo Tommy John surgery rate next week at the elbow of his pitching arm, which will end his season.
Chamberlain has a torn right elbow ligament and is expected to be out of circulation at least a year.
The Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Dr. James Andrews performed surgery on Thursday, which is to replace an elbow ligament with a tendon from another part of the body.
"It is easier to deal with this. I know I'm going to get better, and is not life or death, " Chamberlain said. "I'm just happy to be able to fix and can come back stronger and hopefully have a long career. " The 25-year right-hander leads 2-0 with 2.83 ERA in 27 games. It has been a key member of the Yankees staff for several years.
